Although the author has to admit that Linton's Appledore Press "was he most noteworthy private press in America prior to the nineties", she comes to the conclusion that "Linton´s delicate books do not foreshadow those of Morris." In her adjudgement she only refers to Linton's collection of poems, like The Golden Apples of Hesperus, not to his illustrated pamphlets.
