Donghwan Jo & Haejun Jo] [October 18, 2015 The Nuremberg Diary (A Father and Son Project) Haejun Jo has lived in Nuremberg between 2009 and 2011. He has gathered his observations and experiences, especially stories connected to Albrecht Dürer, and has written them down in the form of dialogues. These he sent to his father Donghwan Jo in Korea who translated them into a pictorial version.

The statue of Albrecht Dürer. The statue is at the bottom of a small hill. This hill is situated on the way to Dürer´s house.
Dürer´s loo. Taeyoon Kim, who lived in the city, had visited Dürer´s house. What particulary caught his eye was the toilet, which was located right next to the kitchen. The ancient houses had their toilets typically not in the interior of the house. Dürer

Dürer´s childhood. His father was a goldsmith. He had a workshop for jewelry in Nuremberg and thus earned his money. To visit a school was inconceivable for families of his class. School attendance in those times was was reserved for wealthy families.

A hare, which one can cook at home together with herbs is about 40000 Won. The seller of the rabbit shop dipped the head of the hare in an iron vessel filled with water that was waiting in the store and throttled him. It went very quickly.
To get an extract of haremedicine for my daughter we had to make a woodfire on the roof. The process of making took a whole day. “Don´t throw so much wood in the fire.”

The hare, after Dürer, 1984. I drew on the base of the dialoguescript of my son Haejun, saying: In the work “a wilde hare” from the year 1502, on a bronze background the threedimensional figure of a big wilde hare is to be seen.
I sorted the bones of the hare, which still clung to the meat. They were left over from the production of the hare medicine.
I removed the meat on the hare bones using a plastic spatula. Then I put the bones in soda lye. Thus all the remnants were completely replaced.
The skull of the hare. Out of the remains, from which my wife had made the hare medicine of my daughter, I collected and selected the bones, put them togehter, took them for a pattern and drew it.
I went to the old bookshop and asked if they have an illustrated book on harebones, but none such exited. Sell and resell old books.
After the selection and putting together of those bones, which remained from the making of the haremedicine I came to the conclusion that some of them must be missing. It was extraordinary difficult to reconstruct the spine and the footbones. Therefor i t

Haejun and my daughter- in- law Kyungsu visit the industrial trade fair in Nuremberg.. They saw a small American landrover, which was built in 1943. They reported it to me. I imagined this scene and drew it. The day of sightseeing.
